Adult Summer Programs and Prizes!

We have fun programs and prizes planned for adults too!

The Newton Public Library’s Summer Reading program has been a longtime favorite for local children, but did you know adults can get in on the fun too?  Adult readers are invited to check out any three books or audiobooks through August 26th to earn a free ticket to the movie of their choice at the Capitol II Theatre.

The Checkout Challenge: Explore all the library has to offer with the Checkout Challenge!  This adult Summer Reading program works like a scavenger hunt; pick up a punch card bookmark at the library and complete six of the tasks listed on the bookmark.  Ask a staff member to punch your bookmark every time you complete a task, then turn in your completed bookmark by August 26th for a chance to win a Kindle tablet and other prizes!

Events for Adults:

Iowa “Folk & Roll” duo, The High Crest, will perform on Friday, July 22nd from 6:00-8:00pm.  This musical act is a blend of dueling guitars, powerful harmonies, and groovy djembe hand drums.  The High Crest has performed at the Des Moines Arts Festival, Rocket Suzie Music Festival and nationally at Sunfest (OR).  The concert will be held outdoors on the library lawn and is family-friendly.  Blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics are encouraged!

Smartphones for Beginners: Join our Public Services Librarian on Monday, July 25th at 11:00am, for an introduction to smartphone use.  This small class is recommended for beginners and no experience is necessary.  Attendees should bring their phones and charging cords.  Registration is required and spaces are limited.  Please call 641-792-4108 to register.

Adult Coloring: Join us Thursday, August 4th at 6:00pm to relax and unwind with a colored pencil or watercolor book!  All materials provided, adults only.

DIY @ the Library: Painted Garden Stones: Paint your own decorative garden stones!  On Monday, August 8th at 6:00pm, Lisa Frasier will demonstrate tips and techniques for creating unique designs on stone.  All materials provided, registration is required.  Please call 641-792-4108 to reserve your spot.  Ages 16+
