Homebound Reader Service

Delivery service provided by the Library to Homebound Patrons.

Homebound Reader Service

Policy:

Persons unable to visit the library in person because of illness, injury or disability may apply to the Library for homebound service.  The library will match the homebound individual with a volunteer who will deliver books for patrons within city limits of Newton, or a family member may be designated for those outside of Newton city limits.  Homebound cards are kept at the library. Overdue fines are not applied to homebound cards, but fees for lost or damaged items are assessed.  The homebound status may be revoked at the director's discretion if the privilege is abused.

-Adopted by the Newton Public Library Board in October 2013.

Application:

The Homebound Reader Service is a free program specifically designed for those who are confined to their homes by an illness or an injury, either temporary or long term. If you are interested in Homebound Reader Service call the Library at (641)792-4108, to request an application form.  Forms will be mailed to your residence and may be returned via mail or to the Library (mailing the forms confirms your residence requirements to receive a library card). Patrons within Newton City limits will be assigned a volunteer that will drop off and pick up your library materials. Patrons living outside of Newton city limits are allowed to designate a volunteer who will pick up and drop off library materials on the readers behalf.

Homebound Readers are allowed to check out a variety of materials including Magazines, Audiobooks, and books. Readers may also request specific titles and place holds on items.
